Client: Natural History Museum
Contractor: Walter Lilly
Lucas has completed the full decorations package for a landmark project at the Natural History Museum in South Kensington — part of the Museum’s ambitious Urban Nature Project, a national initiative aimed at safeguarding biodiversity and reconnecting people with the natural world in urban environments.
Driven by a mission to inspire action in the face of growing environmental pressures, the Museum is transforming its five-acre gardens into a vibrant, inclusive green space designed to engage both children and adults in the importance of protecting nature. The redeveloped grounds include new habitats, improved accessibility, and interactive experiences that bring nature to life in the heart of London.
At the centre of the transformation is the creation of a new Nature Activity Centre, supported by AWS, alongside a café and function room that will serve as key facilities for education, events, and community engagement. The entire development has been designed to be carbon neutral, aligning with the Museum’s broader sustainability goals.
Lucas was appointed by specialist contractor Walter Lilly to deliver all internal decorations across the new buildings. Our scope included detailed finishes throughout the Nature Activity Centre and adjoining spaces, ensuring a welcoming and high-quality environment that reflects the Museum’s vision for accessibility, education, and environmental stewardship.
