On Friday 14th September, warmed by occasional Autumn sunshine, 42 golfers battled for the S. Lucas Golf Championship. The venue - the East Course of the magnificent East Sussex National Golf Resort & Spa - proved to be a true test of golfing ability with the top three in the individual competition separated by only two points. Alan McKay of G&A Carpentry came out on top with 38 points, closely followed by two Mace men - Mark Massey with 37 points and Martin Childerhouse with 36 points. Alan McKay was also a member of the winning four-ball along with Warren Pickance and Ray Blythe of Mace Plus, and Matt Evans of Como Ltd. Ray Blythe also won the Nearest the Pin prize with Lee Penlington of Como Ltd taking the longest drive competition.

The players included Keith Turnbull, a professional photographer who is responsible for most of the images used in the company's brochures and website. He kindly took photos throughout the whole day including the evening's entertainment. For the second year running, Nick Freeman put aside his Construction Supervisor role for Mace Ltd and took charge of the roving refreshments buggy. His tireless efforts took him to all parts of the course, the service being rated as excellent by all.

Mercedes Benz of Tonbridge provided a £50,000 CLS for the day for the Hole In One competition with Terry Mitchell, Accountant, and Alex Robles, Sales Administrator, manning tee and green to see fair play. In the event, the car was not won, but Terry and Alex's efforts were rewarded a round of golf when all competitors had played through. And then to the evening with Frank Carson displaying his seemingly endless repertoire of jokes before, during and after a fine three-course meal. With laughter still ringing in their ears, all were obviously winners at the S. Lucas Golf Day.
