New ownership structure at S. Lucas Group

As part of the continued succession plans for S. Lucas Group an internal MBO has just been completed which sees Sam Lucas passing over his controlling stake of the business to Managing Director Danny Lucas. Danny has been working for the company for nearly 30 years and becomes Chairman and Managing Director. Joining Danny as shareholders are Commercial Director, Ken Mulholland and Danny’s younger brother Adam, both of whom have worked for the company for over 10 years. Sam Lucas said, “I started S. Lucas nearly 40 years ago in 1971 and it was always based on never saying “no”, working hard and doing whatever was required to deliver a quality job on time with everybody pulling in the same direction.” He added, “From a young age, Danny embraced my simple format and added his own style of management. This took us successfully forward and today we are the best at what we do in our industry and I am proud we have such a dedicated team of hardworking individuals who are loyal to the Lucas way of delivering our jobs.”

The company has grown consistently over the decades and is now a major painting contractor to the construction industry working on some of the largest and most prestigious building projects. These have included Heathrow Terminal 5, The O2 and the 2012 Olympic Stadium, many signature City high rise buildings including currently the Shard of Glass, and historically important buildings such as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon and the Savoy Hotel. Lucas Fit Out was established as a separate company within the group in 2008 and S. Lucas still retains a thriving domestic painting and decorating arm. Earlier this year the company won the Finishing and Fit Out category of the Specialist Awards 2010 organised by Construction News.

Danny Lucas said, “I am proud to take control of the company and will ensure that our reputation goes from strength to strength. We have gone through a tough two years but despite this, we are in a strong position with an excellent reputation and good jobs on our order book. I don’t put this down to luck, but the fact that we just knuckle down and focus on the job in hand. This stands out to our clients and ensures repeat business. This has always been our strength and under my ownership with Ken and Adam, I will be ensuring this remains our main focus.”
