Lucas wins Berkeley Group Apprentice Award

Barry Mason collects award

Lucas has won the Berkeley Group Apprentice Award 2017 in the Best Subcontractor category. The awards recognise people and businesses that have gone the extra mile in demonstrating their commitment to apprenticeships.

The Berkeley Group said that we won the award because we are leading the way in developing an innovative approach to teaching and enthusing students and new apprentices about working in the construction industry.

We have recently appointed our first fully qualified training and apprenticeships manager, Barry Mason, and we are partnering with London South East Colleges to bring together college vocational courses with practical on-site training and assessment.

Berkeley Group was particularly impressed that the courses we plan will cater for a diverse range of learning styles, allowing for personalised and blended learning, enabling students with learning differences such as dyslexia to progress. We have already professionally produced a suite of learning videos titled “Brush up with Barry” to aid this process.

To help the wider industry we are more than happy to teach apprentices from other companies and we are also working closely with the charity, Bounce Back, where we will focus on the training and employment of ex-offenders.

Lucas award winning

Danny Lucas, the Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Lucas, is to chair the Construction Advisory Board of London South East Colleges. We hope to be running a satellite site for the college where apprentices will complete traditional classroom based courses to diploma level 3, but at the same time undertake cutting edge, internally developed E-learning modules and gain valuable on-site experience.
