Lucas shortlisted for Berkeley Group Apprentice Awards 2017

Lucas is delighted to have been shortlisted for the Berkeley Group Apprentice Awards 2017 in the Best Subcontractor category.
This is the second annual awards by the housebuilding company which is a major client of Lucas. Berkeley Group awards recognise people and businesses that have gone the extra mile demonstrating their commitment to apprenticeships.
At Lucas we are investing in a major new training and apprenticeship initiative to help solve the skills shortage in our industry. We have appointed our first fully qualified training and apprenticeships manager, Barry Mason, and we are partnering with London South East Colleges (LSEC) to bring together college vocational courses with practical on-site training and assessment.
We are creating the Lucas Centre of Excellence which will become a satellite site for LSEC. Apprentices will complete traditional classroom based courses to diploma level 3, but at the same time undertake cutting edge, internally developed E-learning modules and gain valuable on-site experience.
The courses will cater for a diverse range of learning styles, allowing for personalised and blended learning, enabling students with learning differences such as dyslexia to progress. We have already professionally produced a suite of learning videos titled “Brush up with Barry” to aid this process.
To help the wider industry we are more than happy to teach apprentices from other companies and we are also working closely with the charity, Bounce Back, where we will focus on the training and employment of ex-offenders.
The awards will be announced in a special ceremony on October 10th.
