S Lucas redecorates Olympia exhibition and conference centre
Specialist painting contractor S Lucas has won the decorations contract to repaint all the structural steelwork and timber cladding in the Grand Hall at the Olympia exhibition and conference centre in Kensington, one of London’s largest exhibition centres. S Lucas spray painting operators have just a few weeks during July and August to complete the work to fit in with Olympia’s existing schedule of exhibitions and will have to put a temporary hold on the work twice whilst planned events go ahead at the venue.
The company is using a user-friendly water-based paint system for the entire roof structure along with its innovative brush and roller washout stations developed in conjunction with ICI Dulux, which neutralise waste paint and turn it into an inert “biscuit” material that can be disposed of safely. Danny Lucas, Managing Director of S Lucas, said: “Olympia first opened in 1886 and the Victorians built it with beautifully ornate steelwork in floral designs with huge arches and galleries under the vast ceiling. We are using industrial powered access equipment to raise large working platforms for our state-of-the-art spraying equipment. The measures mean important savings in costs and time for Olympia’s owners.”
