Lucas Fit Out Meet the Mace Clipper Challenge

In its first attempt at the Mace Clipper Challenge, the Lucas Fit Out team recorded a commendable fourth place to the delight of company managing director and team leader Peter Lippard. Now in its third year, the Mace Clipper Challenge is an informal corporate race in the Eastern Solent, open to all non-professional competitors within the construction industry. In addition to Peter, the Lucas Fit Out team comprised Richard Wilson from S. Lucas, Tony LaCroix from Westfield and Gordon Barnes, Sandy Good, Leah Heimour and James Meaden all from Mace.

Claire White from Lucas Fit Out was landside crew organiser. This year’s event attracted some 19 boats with over 150 participants. The Lucas Fit Out team’s 40-foot yacht ‘Rocket Dog’ was ‘skippered’ by Julian and his ‘first mate’ Charlie. The racing took place on 29th May after a morning’s training but lack of wind meant the planned three races were reduced to one straight line race between two marker buoys. Nevertheless, the Lucas Fit Out team found the experience on the high seas and the corporate entertainment in the evening an experience they would like to repeat next year. A non-profit making event, all monies raised go directly to The Philip Green Memorial Trust and Cancer Research UK.
