First class for our own Jamie Oliver

Huge congratulations are due to one of our quantity surveyors, Jamie Oliver, who has just graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Greenwich with a BSc in Quantity Surveying.

Jamie left school without a clear idea of what he wanted to do and took a number of different jobs until he decided to go to college and learn painting and decorating.

It was following a college day visit to Lucas which opened his eyes to the career possibilities in construction that he decided to both study and work and see just how much he could achieve. Lucas offered him an apprenticeship and Jamie started studying part time for his NVQ exams.

He impressed us and became an Assistant QS here whilst spending one day a week at Maidstone College studying for his Higher National Certificate in construction.

Now after six years at Lucas Jamie has successfully completed his degree as well as having been promoted to Quantity Surveyor working on some of our great projects like Shard Place, Chelsea Barracks and currently Battersea Power Station.

Jamie has had to manage his time carefully, working evenings and weekends. But he’s not finished yet. He wants to qualify as a Chartered Surveyor which means further study and assessments by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors

Ken Mulholland, Commercial Director, said: “Jamie has done so well to graduate with a First whilst at the same time being an important member of the Lucas team. He’s studied really hard and deserves our congratulations.”
