Lucas passes three million hours safe working milestone

Lucas is immensely proud to announce that we have now passed three million hours of safe working without a reportable accident or incident.

Health and safety is an absolute priority at Lucas. It is embedded in our culture across the company and on all our operational sites. It is now five and a half years since we reported a RIDDOR incident to the Health and Safety Executive.

It is therefore no coincidence that we regularly receive awards out on site from our clients for our safety record, or that we are currently shortlisted by Construction News for their health, safety and wellbeing award.

“Safety as standard” is an important part of our daily regime forming part of our Workforce Engagement Programme. We adhere to an externally monitored safety training programme and closely monitor every operative’s competencies, qualifications, safety awareness and upskilling.

We hold regular meetings at Lucas HQ with our safety leadership teams, operatives and management to ensure the “safety as standard” message is fully understood and owned by everyone. We include open discussions of mental health issues which all helps towards a positive attitude to health, wellbeing, and therefore safety.

Operatives are encouraged to report and photograph “near misses” on site with our easy to use smartphone app that automatically feeds back the information to our safety leadership team to analyse, spot trends and learn from the experience which helps to prevent accidents.

“The safety of our operatives is absolutely crucial to us,” said Danny Lucas, Executive Chairman and Managing Director of Lucas. “We promote health and safety every day for good reason, and passing this milestone is testament to the exceptional efforts of our health and safety teams.”
