Lucas Fit Out secures major schools project
Lucas Fit Out has won a major project from Costain and has been appointed the lead subcontractor for the complete refurbishment of a listed Victorian schoolhouse in Lewisham, South London. Lewisham Bridge is a Grade II listed school and will be the centre of a new learning village, called Prendergast Vale, catering for boys and girls from kindergarten through to 16. There is also a sister Sixth Form college. While Costain concentrates on building five new buildings next to the original school, Lucas Fit Out has been tasked with the £1.23 million complete refurbishment of the main building under Costain’s management. The Lucas team will coordinate the sensitive refurbishment programme that will include the cleaning and repair of the roof, repair and restoration of the original sash windows and the cleaning and repair of all the brickwork. Internally, it will organise the restoration of the Victorian glazed tiles in all corridors as well as undertake the reconfiguration of schoolrooms involving some new walls and flooring, plaster repairs and a full programme of redecoration. The team from Lucas Fit Out will carry out most of the work which will all be monitored by historic building experts and will also co-ordinate some specialist trades brought in for particular aspects of the project. Work starts now and the programme is due for completion in December.
