Lucas to support the British Lung Foundation in its post-coronavirus initiatives

Lucas has partnered with the British Lung Foundation (BLF) to help fund its forward plans to support people whose lung health is affected by Covid-19 or who are at greater risk of Covid-19.

The lung disease charity recognises the immediate need to support people who experience breathing difficulties after COVID. Which is why along with Asthma UK they have launched the post-COVID HUB, a dedicated helpline and WhatsApp service.

The hub brings together the latest research and advice for patients, medical professionals and researchers.

It is also hoped it will act as a collaborative space to enable ground-breaking research into the long-term impacts of Covid-19 on respiratory health.

Lucas has already launched its own “Stop the spread” campaign aimed at protecting its workforce returning to construction sites and working to new operating guidelines set out by the industry and government.

As part of this initiative we have designed, developed and are now manufacturing prominent, free-standing hand wash stations for construction sites and elsewhere. Under our new partnership with the BLF, we hope to raise £250,000 for the charity’s work from the sale of the wash stations.

We have been working with the BLF for three years and are a founding partner of its Living Well Alliance of companies making efforts to counter lung disease. We regularly hold lung-testing sessions with the assistance of the BLF for operatives working out on construction sites.

Lucas now have manufacturing arrangements in place to ensure a continuous supply of our own 80% alcohol hand sanitizer for the hand wash stations which has been tested and certified to the internationally recognised EN1500 standard.

We are also donating hand wash stations to care homes and NHS facilities where they are most needed.

Also launching today is the “#TrueColours” movement which recognises initiatives and acts of kindness carried out by individuals and companies within DIY and construction involved with paints and commercial coatings. Staff from Lucas and Dulux have recorded a version of Cindy Lauper’s song “True Colours” as the campaign goes nationwide.

Danny Lucas said: “We have been partners with the BLF for three years so I’m proud of this new arrangement which sees their name on the hand wash stations. I believe the hand wash stations play a crucial role in keeping our operatives safe on site and adhering to the new operating guidelines.”
